Hello Dear Blog Readers,
This weekend brings some seriously awesome funk grooves all the way from Reno, NV. They are gracing us with their presence after killing the stage on Friday night at Hempfest. If you want to get your groove on without the festival crowd atmosphere, the Benbow Room will be a sweaty booty shaker Saturday night.
The band’s bio says this about their music: Jelly Bread’s genre blurring musical alchemy produces a playlist that is always chameleonic, melding elements of high desert twang, Oakland funk and rock, whose calling card is high energy, counter balanced by exceptional songwriting and storytelling. Their mix of in-the-pocket drum and bass grooves, swampy lap steel guitar, dirt under the fingernails guitar licks, and take-’em-to-church organ is downright appetizing—bright colors and sweet, funky flavors. Jelly Bread is a tour de force of full frontal funk but somehow stay thoroughly steeped in a Rock-Americana style that has a rollicking indie alt-rock radio appeal.
WS folks get out and support your very own music venue right smack in the Admiral District! So nice to not have to cross the bridge for great live music.
Also, TONIGHT at 9pm is comedy at the Benbow. So much talent happening. Do not miss this! This is the 2nd installment of our comedy night happening on the first and third Thursdays with your host, the hilarious Dan Clayton.
If you like Foo Fighters or Sublime (and who doesn’t?!) Friday night we have Can’t Complain, a Seattle band who has been getting lots of attention from radio and has been touring like mad. Sharing the bill is a young up and coming girl group called She’s Not Dead from Portland. We’re pretty sure this is going to be amazing.
As always, delicious cheap eats from the Heartland Cafe are available to keep that hunger nice and fed.
See you at the Benbow Room this weekend mateys!
